Holly's Birthday Party
Here are some pictures from Holly's Birthday Party. She had a great time throughout the whole thing except for the having the birthday song sung to her part. She hates being the center of attention. So, she cried through that part. We had soups and spaghetti (for the kids) - and cake for dessert. By the way, if you ever are in a pinch for a cake, Whole Foods makes wonderful cakes. I wasn't in a pinch, but I didn't need a big one. Plus I didn't want any food dyes or preservatives or products treated with hormones or pesticides or GMO in it. SO, for Nathaniel's birthday we got one of the little ones and it was delish. We got a big one for Holly's party and between about 10 adults and 10 kids, we still had some left over!
Anyway, here are the pictures from her party!

baseball game song
i am currently processing all the holiday pictures. that takes lots of time since i had over 300. but, i have a photoshoot on friday so i have to get it done by then so i can reformat my card! :) i'll post blogs of pictures for holly's birthday, christmas pictures, and the snow as they come available!
videos don't require processing. this morning, kendal and holly were playing with the baseball game and they were just singing away (singing the baseball game song - that is what they call it). sometimes they sing it together, sometimes they take turns singing it. they probably sang it 10 times before i got my camera to record it. so, this one lacked the volume and energy as the previous times... but it was still cute.

holiday menu
i had to take mom's car to zebulon this afternoon and while i was waiting to meet dad, i noticed a note on the console. this note was a list of items on a typical southern holiday menu! i'm guessing it is what they had for thanksgiving, but i bet it is what we'll eat on christmas eve!
fruit salad
peas (pink eye purple hulls)
butter beans
sweet potatoes
corn pudding
grean bean casserole
collards
two meats, usually turkey and ham
dressing, sometimes two - regular and oyster
gravy
pickles, usually beet and sweet cucumber
mashed potatoes
cranberry sauce (out of a can!)
breads - corn bread and homemade biscuits and homemade yeast rolls
deviled eggs
sweet potato pie
pecan pie
grape pie is also on her list but i wouldn't say that is a traditional southern thing. that is a mom thing!
sounds good, huh?

snow
i can't help it - no matter how much of a mess it is, i just love it. i love to watch it, smell it, hear it - and see how excited the kids are about it. when the weatherperson says it is gonna snow at night, i can't help but wake up every 2 hours and look out of the window to see if it has started snowing yet. when the ground is finally getting white, i still feel like i am 10 and want to turn on the radio to hear "wake county schools are canceled" (except i really do not want to miss work).
kendal remembers sledding last year. when it snowed a couple of weeks ago, he wanted to slide down the hill. so, he remembered it on his own. of coarse, it wasn't enough to sled. and, neither is what we got yesterday. but, both times have been enough to stomp in! and, kendal loves to stomp in the snow. kendal was sick yesterday and so nathaniel and i split up the work day. i worked in the morning, and he worked in the afternoon. before kendal would take a nap, he wanted to go outside and stomp in the snow. there was like 4 little puffs of snow left on the ground. and, he stepped in them all. then he got his feet muddy! he didn't like that.
holly doesn't like the snow as much. she doesn't like "dirty hands" and when the snow sticks to her gloves, they look dirty. last year, she just wanted to eat it. so, i don't think she remembers last year (not that i would expect her to). she likes to see it but i all is not very interested in it. she just likes to talk about everything and snow is just one more thing to discuss. :)
i love snow though. i can't wait to get a real big snow so that we can sled. even if it does mean i can't go to work. i suppose an unplanned family day will be good for the soul! especially when no one is sick... and we can all enjoy it!

sarah palin
warning: this is a rant!
i'm just wondering, am i the only woman in america that is NOT impressed with her? she seems like she'd make a great hairdresser. but, not a great leader. i guess staring on a cable/network TV reality show sorta disqualifies her as a leader now, eh? i don't get cable but i have watched the show one time. and, all i could think about is "you QUIT a governor job to do what?" does anybody know? wouldn't being the governor of a state for which you decided to run (or accepted a nomination) take priority to everything except being a christian, a wife, and a mother? and unless those three things weren't being affected (and she never said they were), then why would you quit your job? i guess i'm just not impressed with anything she says or does. it takes more than a straight teeth and a nice smile to woo me. and, i don't care if you can fish and hunt - that is only good for the food on YOUR table. not everyone "IN AMERICA" has access to nice fishing boats with their own captains and hunting clubs where they probably clean and dress the animals for you.
it just seems like every monday there about 15 posts from my FB friends (usually woman - heck, ALWAYS women) who are commenting on how wonderful sarah palin is. really? what is she doing that is so great? it is a TV show. most of the filming is edited out so that what airs is "palin approved" - i'm pretty sure that living and working in nature is not glamorous! so if she's breathing "smoke" from the cold air and/or the flags are a'whipping from a stiff wind, and her nose is never red, then she's kept warm somewhere until time to film. it is cold in alaska, you know! reality tv means that what you are watching is, in reality, not what really happened.
on second thought, i couldn't imagine sarah palin doing hair. maybe she would make a good nail technician: works with her hands, could talk a lot, but not be responsible for anything too important (like someone's hair!)
