i know this is random and i never thought i'd say this (and i hope it doesn't jinx me or her) but, i'm thankful for ear tubes. we've been 3 (or 4) months now with no ear infections. that's an eternity after going 9 months with one every 3 weeks - or, one that never healed that kept coming back over and over and over. we're lucky she talks and can hear.
anyway, i hope we don't ever have complications with them (like, when they fall out - which they are supposed to - and if we have to get another set) but for now, i'm thankful for these last 3 months without any antibiotics or pain relievers. whew. poor baby girl finally has a healthy stomach!

what i want wednesday
well, it's wednesday. for a week now, i've been wanting something so much that i can't even think straight. the time is coming, and i need to decide! not that i'm gonna be getting it tomorrow, but i will soon enough. like, soon as i sell my current camera and accessories (interested?) anyway, i can't decide if i should upgrade to a...
NIKON or CANON!!!
i want a full frame camera, AND both make a "semi-pro" full frame camera and that's the one i'm shopping for.
the cons to upgrading: my old lenses (all nikon) are all DX, meaning they are made for the 1.6x sensor of my Nikon D5000. so, basically, my old lenses will need to be sold with my old camera.
pros to upgrading: well, obviously, a full frame sensor (just like the old 35mm film sensor size). plus both have a high ISO (take better low-light photos).
facts about the cameras that make the decision about which to get really hard:
nikonfx 12.1 mp, canonfx 21mp (= massive file ...what if that large file size kills my computer? extra cost)
nikonfx is 6.3 oz heavier(and also larger) than the canonfx.
nikonfx is better in low light but the canonfx has better resolution. not that i print posters or anything!
nikonfx has a built in flash, canonfx does not.
nikonfx costs more than the canonfx (we're talking like $500 to $600 for the body). nikon lenses and accessories (flashes, etc.) are also more expensive for some reason! guess you pay for the name.
i am already familiar with nikon's settings, though the D700 is a little different. i am not familiar with canon's settings but supposedly it is really easy - way easier than a nikon in general.
so, what will it be? any advice?
this is worse than picking out furniture. frankly, it costs more too!

Photo Challenge - Colorful
This past Friday, I had a photoshoot with a wonderful family at DeHart. This photo was my FAVORITE of the day - and I thought it'd be perfect for thepapermama's colorful photo challenge this week.
I love the colors in this photo- and the way he is looking right at the camera and holding the flower, but she is looking at the flowers. These children were so sweet. This photo really captures how sweet they are! And, why it was my favorite of the day!

top ten tuesday - things that are running through my head
not really important, but yesterday i couldn't focus at work, last night i woke up at 2:30am, and today i'm back to not being able to focus.
so, here are the top ten things that keep running through my head.
1. nikon or canon?
2. fair or vollomer's back 40 or hill ridge?
3. am i getting sick?
4. am i getting a migraine?
5. my legs hurt.
6. i'm SO tired. i need to sleep. i wish i could sleep for 4 days but not because i'm sick.
7. how do i write this? (re: a task order at work)
8. should i color my hair again or not? my hair sure is looking dull. why isn't it growing? it's been the same length for a year now.
9. brown or gray?
10. why in the world does vollomer's not open until 11 and why aren't they open on friday?

manic monday
this one is for my husband. and it requires a little story as a prelude.
back in the days after college, i had an awesome roommate that LOVED racing. southern racing (nascar). i was never a fan, but when there were short tracks and restrictor plates, i could watch it (lots of wrecks). in nascar, wrecks are sorta cool i guess.
fast forward to 2006. i went to my first indy car race with nathaniel. it was hot. really hot. still, i'm not a fan of racing but those cars are FAST. and loud. it didn't win me over but i think indy racing is a tougher sport than nascar and i WAY more respect those racers. wrecks are not cool and incredibly dangerous. we went to another race that summer in richmond and i had a migraine. yea, again, it was ok.
nathaniel is a HUGE dan weldon fan. so last night when we saw on tv that he was killed in a massive pile up wreck, that was really really sad and surprising. not only is he a good racer (eh, he won the 2011 indy500) he is also a husband and a daddy to two adorable, young little boys and loved by many many folks - even ashley judd who was sobbing in the 5 lap tribute. so, so sad. i bet he was a nice guy. nathaniel said he was (i'm pretty sure he met him) so i believe him.
so, long story over, here's my manic monday tribute to dan weldon. and nathaniel. hope you find another racer to cheer for (helio).

workable weekend - chico's slim leg jeans
it may be monday morning, but i'm gonna catch up from my busy weekend.
saturday morning, holly and i trecked quickly to smithfield - all i really wanted was to go to the gymbo outlet to get her some christmas PJs before they sold out. we ended up spending $100 and i also went to the chicos outlet.
what's workable about that? i got my first pair of slim leg jeans. they were $49.99 AND 30% off. and, they are awesome. never thought slim leg jeans could look good on me, but chicos found a way. no doubt!

friday five
five things i'm looking forward to this weekend...
1. shooting a new family this evening. new, meaning someone i've never met before. this is a first for me. i've always known the people i've shot before (in one way or another). these people are totally strangers. family of 4 plus a dog! SO excited.
2. shooting a friend tomorrow evening. this friend is an old gymbo friend, so i'm looking forward to seeing her - plus meeting her family. at gymbo, we used to talk about our families non-stop, so it will be really neat to meet the folks that make her who she is! :)
3. GYMBOREE outlet tomorrow. yay! though, i'm only getting christmas PJs for holly, but still. i LOVE gymbo. i wonder which kid (or both) will want to go with me. my kids LOVE to shop!
4. spending hours processing photos. FUN! it's like eating fudge. too hot to touch when it's cooking (i.e. the photo shooting, can't really see how they really look on that little viewfinder), so when it cools (upload), it's like eating fudge when i process them. ok, maybe a bad analogy but if you process photos, you probably know what i mean. i LOVE doing it.
5. spending time with my family! between all the shooting and processing, i'm sure i'll have plenty of times when i'm like "WHAT!?!?!?!" but still, i'll enjoy my time with them too. suppose i'll have to move the laptop to the bedroom for the night! unless it is slumber party night... kendal and i haven't had one of those in a while. holly hogs all my nights! my kids are awesome.
